Hi everyone. Planning for the Ski Locker Open Day is accelerating. The date is Friday 8th September from 10am - 4pm. Pop it in your diary!

Please bring your wonderful selves for the day, and invite friends too. Anyone who comes along will get a free day pass – be lovely to see some of you ex-Ski Locker peeps too.

On the day, we’ll have a coffee & cake break at 11, then go for lunch at Monkey at 12.30. After work drinks at Bighorn as usual. Ping pong table will be out too.

Le jour, nous aurons une pause café et gâteau à 11 heures, puis aller déjeuner à Monkey à 12h30. Après le travail, buvez à Bighorn comme d'habitude. La table de ping-pong sera également sortie.

"I don't need a desk, I need a community!"

The Ski Locker has been running for some time now and we are inspired every day by the community we have built together. Today, we have over 70 members in 6 different time zones. We have noticed that more people living in Chamonix also want to take part in the community but only need a desk for a couple of days per month. It's from this insight we have created our new Social Pass membership.

How does Social Pass work?

Like all our memberships, Social Pass is very simple. You pay €30/month (for a 6 month minimum period) and get the following perks included:

- Access to a Flexi desk twice a month (12 days over a 6 month period)

- Join our Slack team and contribute to the Ski locker community

- Become a member of the Mountain Coworking Alliance, and gain new coworkers at 16+ coworking spaces all over the world.
- Take part in our social events, like our monthly breakfasts

The Mountains. They're Calling...

Perhaps it's a sixth sense, gut feeling, intuition, spiritual awakening, but something amazing happens to those lucky enough to live and work in the hearts of valleys where mountains hold you close and keep you looking up at their peaks. They demand from us a continuous effort to make work fit life and not the other way around.

We look up from our screens teased with majestic mountain vistas that conjure up thoughts of adventures to be had. This need to be among them ultimately leads to less time spent doing things we don’t enjoy and more effort spent doing things that make us enjoy being alive. Amazingly this sense of fulfilment and happiness feeds directly back into our much more productive workflows and careers.

If we consider that for most of our day we exist in digital spaces, surrounded by wifi signals, continuously holding mobile devices, staring directly into false light and connecting virtually with a cyber-based world then how important must it be to be able to reconnect with something real, tangible and truly wholesome. Being able to live and work surrounded by mountains offers an instant sense that something much bigger and better is around us. The freedom to access nature on such a huge scale is an experience that can put even the biggest conflict or problem into perspective.

When you live here you crave to get close to the mountains. You drink from its pure waters, run along its veins, glide in its pristine air, hold on tight to its features, breathe it in deep and feel better for it.

However this sense we are experiencing isn’t just something for the alternative thinking, poi spinning, free spirits among us to ascribe to. THE SKI LOCKER'S NEW FLAGSHIP OFFICE

MEMBER DRIVEN FEEDBACK

As we have such a tight nit and engaged community we figured they would know what we should look for in a new space. So we simply asked them for feedback,- this is what stood out:

Faster internet connection, (today we have two lines of VDSL 24 mbit down, 10 mbit up)
Ability to take a shower after skiing, running, climbing or whatever sport you have done.
More desks at windows at the moment several of our desks are located in a basement.

The member feedback plus research and visits to other coworking spaces around the world has led to the following improvements:

We now accept companies with 1-5 employees
20-30 additional spaces with plenty of window space
Fiber internet connection
Centre of Chamonix
Shower at the office
Meeting room availability
New phone booths
Lunch area outside during summer

The Ski Locker joins the Mountain Coworking Alliance

Coworking, innovation and entrepreneurship is on the rise in mountain towns around the world. To help skiers and snowboarders work and play in the mountains, 11 mountain-town coworking spaces, incubators and innovation centers have joined together to form the Mountain Coworking Alliance.

We're super pleased to let you know that The Ski Locker in Chamonix, France and Revelstoke Coworking in Revelstoke, British Columbia in Canada, are the latest to the join the MCA, a collective of independently owned collaborative workspaces in mountain towns. Together, the MCA provides free reciprocal coworking days at member spaces near Jackson Hole, Vail, Aspen, North Lake Tahoe, South Lake Tahoe, Park City, Durango, Breckenridge, Reno and now Chamonix and Revelstoke.
